The place was like an off-the grid luxury home. The house was powered by solar panels, and we were asked to charge our electronics during the day. There was no TV and only basic kitchen appliances- all of excellent quality. But there was always plenty of energy and hot water for hot showers, laundry etc. It was all done in wood, with Dansk dishes and a rustic lodge style. It had the best – equipped rental kitchen that I have ever had the pleasure to cook in. We made s’ mores in the wood – burning stove and made meals from pastured eggs, goats’ milk, goat chops, Moroccan goat sausages and sage pork sausages from the farm. The beds were divinely comfortable, including the fold-out. To my husband’s delight, the farm dogs followed us everywhere (but for me, not so crazy about dogs, they were not intrusive). The goats were adorable, especially the fluffy 1 month old baby that we held.

Suzanne and Lanita were extremely welcoming and very helpful with info about the area.

Ashland is 30 minutes away, so you can combine its’ wonderful arts scene with a country get-away.

There are maps for several hikes right on the farm property. My daughter, a birder, was in heaven with so many bird habitats including meadow, forest and restored wetland. Our walk behind the farm took us into all of these habitats, with gorgeous scenery and delightful wildflowers. The stars, the quiet, the cool clean air are all amazing.

We fervently hope we can go back some day.
