The sun becomes a spotlight on the beauty of the land as the pace of life begins to decelerate.
This is a deeply regenerative time of year to spend on the ranch, and a wonderful time for youth to connect with nature. We are thankful for all of the field trips and outdoor school programming that The Crest organizes and hosts this time of year, fostering one of many symbiotic relationships that occur here.
Come on up, say hello to the animals, wander along trails, and book a stay. We hope to see you soon!
Who’s Flying
Tis an exciting time to observe the seasonal adaptations of the animal kingdom. Some are busy stockpiling or food caching, while others migrate to or from the area. And the ducks just can’t wait to go to bed these days.
Western Bluebirds are an uplifting presence, scoping out next year’s nest sites near the Burial Ground in natural hollows or cavities in trees.
What’s Blooming
Watch your step! The Fungi Families are growing.
The biodiverse populations of these important decomposers can be found all over the ranch. The process of breaking down organic matter has symbiosis written all over it.

Fall Fungi in the Forest

We’re heading into the woods to search for fungi, share what we find, and try our hand at identifying some of our discoveries along the way. Whether you’re a seasoned mushroom enthusiast or simply curious about what’s growing beneath your feet, there’s plenty to discover! All ages welcome! Come ready to wander, wonder, and get curious!
